High Street Edit Our Fashion Editor's Pick Of The Highlights This Week

It's not true when they say Fashion Editors only wear designer labels. If only it were...

The devil may well wear Prada, but the rest of us are relentless bargain hunters at heart (can you blame us, when our job requires us to wear a fresh outfit for every show, every party, every season?).

And while that may break down the fourth wall illusion that I'm sitting at my desk with my hooves parked in some new season Stella sneakers, it does mean that I know our Great British high street like the back of my hand.

Here's what I'm buying, wearing and wanting this week...

1. The oversized cream coat

There's very little that thrills me more sartorially than winter whites, so - while I'm aware my outerwear repertoire lacks very little - I am in the market for a timeless white coat. This oversized number ticks every box, and would work just as well atop a casual jean and boot as it would a black slip dress for date night.

2. The cosy knitted hoodie

After two years spent almost exclusively in loungewear, it's no wonder that another return to working-from-home has seen me eyeing up ways to elevate my offering. Cosy, knitted iterations of my favourite shapes are the direction I'm heading, and this drawstring hoodie with ribbed detailing is top of my list.

3. The faux leather flares

Leather - and faux leather - trousers are everywhere right now, and while slim-fit pairs work in certain instances, flared takes are infinitely chicer and miles more universally flattering. I'd pair these with a cosy knit to juxtapose the harsher fabric of the trouser, and a chunky Birkenstock sandal as soon as spring hits.

4. The apple green shirt

If you've got your finger on the pulse you've likely spotted that green is having a bit of a moment this season - but while lime is proving popular for eveningwear and olive is undoubtedly a personal favourite, it's this Granny Smith green that's top of the class. This oversized shirt is the perfect way to tap into the trend.

5. The scalloped-collar jacket

I'm for a big collar, as those who follow me on Instagram likely know only too well, but even I'm yet to introduce them to my outerwear wardrobe. Having thoroughly explored the trend in the world of shirts and dresses I'm ready for the upgrade, and these embroidered flowers and scalloped trim couldn't be cuter.

6. The quilted mini skirt

Quilted fabrics are super popular right now, as are mini skirts, but it's rare for the two trends to collide. This wrapped silhouette adds a feminine edge to the utilitarian fabric, while the popper pocket adds a point of focus. I'd tuck in an oversized white t-shirt and pair the look with a crossbody bag and bulky flat boots.

7. The tall chunky boots

When it comes to winter boots most of us are au fait with the ankle boot and the knee-high, but fewer dare venture into the middle ground. Trickier to get right, the mid-calf boot can be a daunting prospect due to its ability to shorten the look of the leg. The trick is proportions - of sole and width - which this pair has got just right.
